When Trials Feel Personal: Trusting God in the Midst of Adversity

Posted on December 19, 2025 by jamesholder

When I am faced with adversity, I often feel that God has something against me. I really don’t like trials in my life.

Paul addressed this issue by emphasizing the sovereignty of God in our lives. God is in control of our trials and temptations.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

It may be difficult to consider that God sets the boundary for our trials while we are in the trial. Paul wrote to the Roman church, “AND WE KNOW”, everything is going to work out for good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 KJV

Take heart dear friend that because you love God and believe in your heart that you are called according to his purpose, in the midst of confusion and chaos, God will monitor your situations to your benefit.

Do I fully understand the purpose of trials?  No!  But the God who created us, knows best how to perfect us. Exercise often brings painful consequences but we know that exercise builds muscles and make our life better for it. Without that exercise your muscles will atrophy and become useless.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

James 1:2-4 KJV All these trials are God plan to perfect His people.
