People Are Not Spare Parts

Some wounds cannot be paid back sufficiently, so through forgiveness, we can just write it off. The person who wounded you does not have the capacity to make things right. What they took from you, you can’t get back. Money won’t pay back the sleepless nights, the time you lost, the dreams that were destroyed, the integrity that was damaged. An apology is appreciated, but that won’t right everything. Too often, because they cannot pay us back, our natural reaction is to write them off rather than write the debt off.

“Because we often make mistakes in how we handle offenses, others can become victims of our imperfections.”

When you work with wood, if you make a wrong cut, cut it too short, you can’t fix it by making it longer, so you just get another piece of wood. When you deal with people you can’t just throw them away and get another piece. Wounds will come, and we need to deal with them through forgiveness.

Forgiveness is your path to move on, while giving the offender freedom to make adjustments in their life without pressure to conform to your expectations.
